A very RARE and collectable piece by Ayesha Davar!

This electric purple cotton Kaftan is the ultimate in Hippie fashion!

A classic trumpet cut with big flared sleeves and gorgeous embroidery all over! The cloth is of good strong quality and the silk thread embroidery is exquisite with white and gold thread intertwined...

Ayesha Davar has an interesting story and her designs have become very collectable and rare especially pieces like this one which is an earlier example from her period with the Beatles apple store..please see below....

"Ayesha Davar moved to the UK with her family in 1967.

In London, that time was the flower power era, and the Beatles were at the head of the scene having opened their boutique..

Ayesha initially started by selling tie-dye and batik paintings at the famous Hyde Park corner to introduce ethnic fashion in the West.

She was encouraged by the director, Mr John Lyndon of the Apple (Beatles) boutique in Baker Street to design clothes and sell these in the Apple boutiqueas well as creating outfits for the band such as Indian kurta’s, embroidered waistcoats, fully embroidered jackets, kaftans, which can be often seen in photos of the Beatles from that era.

Ayesha worked with her Mother in India who translated her designs and sent them to London under her own label. Peter Simon the owner of Monsoon shops visited her showroom/warehouse in Kilburn 1971 to buy many of her designs sell in his shops, many chains followed hi to sell her work including Chelsea Girl , Fenwick’s and Selfridges. Ayesha was in the fashion business for 25 Years before retiring to India to followed a spiritual practice."

Condition: Great vintage condition. The colour is vivid and bright. The embroidery is great and pretty perfect. There is some fading down on the left hand side however this is very faint and not easy to detect.. Sold as vintage.
